The Higgy farm dream was established in my mind 5 years ago. A pot-bellied pig named Tank helped to fuel my dream. He showed the compassion and love that helped healed a broken heart. In my journey with Tank, I learned a lot about animals and their mindset. It motivated me to expand my knowledge and find out what other animals’ mindsets were like.
While going through my healing process, Tank lost his life to a heart attack. It set me on a new path of healing and helped push me in the direction I’m in now.
I grew up spending time with my mom who owned an Adult day program for those diagnosed with a developmental disability. I enjoyed being around this company and even spent a few years working in one of the programs. When I moved back from Florida after the loss of Tank I decided I wanted to do more. I didn’t want to be a veterinarian and spend my days in surgery with animals coming and going, I wanted to show the different animals can make and help heal individuals who can benefit from animals.
I discovered Occupational therapy, a career where you help individuals’ mind, body, and soul. You take a holistic approach and you help them remediate or compensate. I entered the Pima Medical Institue program for Occupational Therapy Assistants, where I learned that my dream can become a reality.
With the assistance of Achieve Builds Confidence Inc. and my village of family/friends. We bought 10acres to build this dream on.
